Koncept was founded in the Fall of 2002 to design and develop a line of innovative lighting products for home and business. What emerged were sleek, contemporary, eco-friendly LED desk lamps that have steadily gained international attention.
Their very first product, the Koncept Z-Bar Desk Lamp, won Best In Category (furniture) in International Design Magazine's 2006 Annual Review. Following that award, Koncept was given the honor of having the Z-Bar included in the permanent collection of Die Neue Sammlung, a museum that celebrates excellence in applied arts and design. In 2007, the Z-Bar Desk Lamp was named one of Time Magazine's "Best Inventions of the Year". In 2008, the Z-Bar won the Silver ADEX award, while the i-Tower took the highest award, the Platinum ADEX award. The Z-Bar has also been featured in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry as part of the Smart Home: Green + Wired exhibit.
Koncept is one of the first manufacturers to combine elegance and sophistication with energy efficiency, and the Z-Bar is considered one of the first green designer lamps. The Z-Bar has since been reengineered to the Z-Bar High Power; a model that uses four higher wattage LED bulbs replacing the original sixty-four low wattage bulbs, which saves more energy, has more light output, and lasts longer.
